KOZHIKODE: The Malayora Vikasana Samithi Malabar Area Committee has alleged that the Peruvannamozhi dam and tourist centre is in danger because of rampant soil erosion.

President of the Malabar Area committee Rajan Varkey said that the hazard to the dam and tourist centre arose from the razing of the hills in the vicinity for the Japanese aided drinking water project.

He alleged that basic guidelines were not being followed while implementing the drinking water project and thereby causing threat to the dam. The Koovakkunnu hill in the vicinity of the dam was being razed to the ground to build tank and road for the drinking water project.

The samithi office-bearers will stage a protest in front of the collectorate here on August 21 to highlight the problem. Mr. Varkey presided over the meeting held to discuss the negligence of the Peruvannamozhi dam and tourist centre.

The samithi pointed out that the eco tourism project was being set up when even basic facilities did not exist here.
