Kozhikode: Vellayil Railway Station Samrakshana Samithi and Choyunni Master Road Residents Association have extended support to the agitation declared by the Malabar Chamber of Commerce and Malabar Train Action Committee against the neglect towards Vellayil Railway Station.

A meeting of the two organisations urged the Railway authorities to put in place Unreserved Ticketing System or paper tickets at the station as non-availability of tickets for major stations towards north from Vellayil has dented the revenue of the station. Also, passengers had to face a lot of difficulties as the halt agent asked them to take tickets from West Hill Station, the next station from Vellayil. Passengers had to alight the train to take tickets from there . The members of two forums cleaned up bushes around the platforms on Sunday.

‘Appoint station master’

They have been demanding appointment of a station master instead of halting agent, increasing the length of station, toilets, drinking water, seats and shelter facilities, stop for Mangalore-Coimbatore and Parasuram Express and upgrading of Vellayil Railway Station to ‘Calicut North’.
