KOCHI: Fisheries Minister S. Sarma said on Saturday that foreign investors were interested in investing in strategic sectors in India. The large Indian market was a key attraction to the foreign companies. The foreign institutions were interested in the insurance sector as it was an important one with a potential for high returns. The foreign companies were not keen on investing in sectors such as coir and khadi. The minister was inaugurating the State convention of General Insurance Agents’ Welfare Association.

Mr. Sarma alleged that the Left parties were against the lack of transparency and conditions for the nuclear deal. He said nuclear energy was given low priority in the Planning Commission proposals. If top priority was being accorded to nuclear energy as it appeared now, it would be contrary to the commission’s objectives.
