ALAPPUZHA: The Kerala Gazetted Officers’ Union (KGOU) has demanded immediate constitution of the Ninth Pay Commission to avoid vested interests from sabotaging salary revisions in the State. The State committee of the KGOU, which met here on Thursday, demanded that back-door appointments be stopped immediately and that the retirement age be raised to 60 years.

Alleging large-scale corruption in the Civil Services, the union demanded steps to make the services more efficient and stop scaling down the number of posts in various departments.

KGOU State secretary C. Rajan Pillai said the 24th founder’s day conference of the union would be held at the Mali Auditorium in Kottayam on July 12. Leader of Opposition Oommen Chandy would inaugurate the conference. KGOU State president P.K. Jacob, Treasurer S. Ajayan and State secretariat member P. Pushparajan also spoke.
