KATTAPPANA: A tremor that was registered at the earthquake monitoring centre at Vallakkadavu, near Mullaperiyar, on Saturday morning was no earthquake.

The shock was caused by the fall of a tree within 100 metres of the centre, said officials of the Kerala State Electricity Board who conducted a survey of the area on Tuesday.

According to them no other centre had reported the shock.

An earthquake, even if it is of low intensity, will be reported in other centres also, they said and added that one particular scale at the centre is capable of registering any major shock nearby the centre.
