KOLLAM: The district registered a record in commercial taxes collection during the last financial year.

The tax collection during the period was Rs.263.57 crore, an increase of 16.2 per cent over the collection during the previous year.

According to Deputy Commissioner of the Commercial Taxes Department Mathew Thomas, the collection at the Aryankavu check-post during the last financial year touched Rs.16.92 crore, posting an increase of 13.87 per cent over the previous year.

He said the Lucky VAT scheme was a success in the district.

The amnesty scheme evoked good response from the trading community. Through adalats, 806 cases were settled.

Mr. Thomas said the construction of the Commercial Tax complex at Kollam and the installation of a weighing machine at the Aryankavu check-post would be completed in a time-bound manner.
