KOLLAM: The Red Ribbon Express train arrived to a grand reception at the Kollam railway station at 4 a.m. on Monday. Bouquets were presented to leader of the train K. Harilal. Announcements on the arrival of the train began at the station two days ago.

Mayor N. Padmalochanan, District Collector A. Shajahan, district panchayat president K. Somaprasad, zonal director of the Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) S. Sathish, District Medical Officer Pauly Joseph and manager of the Kollam railway station Ajith Kumar were present.

Long queues of people were seen waiting to enter the train and have a glimpse of the exhibition set up inside the coaches. Platform number eight of the station was specially arranged to house the train. Cultural programmes were presented on the platform by nursing students and club members of the NYK.

Simultaneously, a bus caravan and cycle caravans were arranged to carry the message of the Red Ribbon Express to the rural areas of the district.

The bus caravan will conduct AIDS awareness programmes at Pathanapuram, Punalur, Anchal, Nilamel, Kadakkal and Kulathupuzha.

Kollam MP P. Rajendran flagged off the cycle caravans that will conduct awareness programme at 24 villages.
