KOLLAM: Any demand by the Communist Party of India (CPI) for the Mayor’s post in the Left Democratic Front (LDF)-ruled Kollam Corporation is likely to be ignored by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M).

The CPI is seriously considering putting forward the demand as a pre-condition for ending the Left Democratic Front (LDF) imbroglio in the district. The Mayor’s post is at present held by CPI(M) nominee N. Padmalochanan.

District assistant secretary of the CPI Soni B. Thengamam said there was no agreement in the LDF that the CPI(M) would hold the Mayor’s post for five years. But CPI(M) district secretary K. Rajagopal said there was no agenda before his party for replacing the Mayor’s post with a CPI nominee.

Mr. Rajagopal said there was no serious crisis in the district unit of the LDF.Mr. Thengamam said the CPI(M) has cornered all important positions in Kollam.
