Thiruvananthapuram: The UDF has alleged that the State government is tampering with the voters’ list for the Lok Sabha elections by inducting active workers of pro-Left service organisations for revision work.

In a statement here on Wednesday, UDF convener P.P. Thankachan said that 12 out of the 14 deputy collectors and 50 out of the 63 deputy tahsildars who were given election responsibilities were active workers of pro-Left service organisations.

He wanted the Election Commission to issue orders to remove them from their posts and appoint impartial officers. He alleged that the Election Commission’s conference with political parties turned out to be a routine affair.

Mr. Thankachan protested against the directive given to officials to delete the names of youth who had either gone to other States or moved to other areas for higher education. They had the right to exercise their franchise in the polling booths located near their residences, he said.
