Kochi: Santhosh Madhavan who had been arrested on cheating and other criminal charges was remanded in police custody for five days by Ernakulam First Class Judicial Magistrate K.S. Sarathchandran on Wednesday.
He was produced before the magistrate at his residence in the morning. According to the police, the arrest was made in connection with a cheating case and other cases. Santhosh was arrested along with his driver Thomas from his vehicle at Vypeen at 9 a.m. on Tuesday. Thomas was also remanded in police custody till 5 p.m. on May 19.
The cheating case was registered on a complaint from Serafin Edwin, a Keralite woman in Dubai. Another case was under Sections 366A and 376 (procuring a minor and rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The case was registered on the basis of a complaint from a 15-year-old girl from Kadavantra here saying that the accused had sexually exploited her in 2006.
The police also registered a case under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act after they seized 12 gm of ganja from his residence here during a search.
In its report seeking custody of the two accused, the police said Santhosh had stashed away CDs with pornographic content in his bank lockers. They had to be recovered.
A detail investigation needs to be conducted in the case and into other allegations. So the police sought custody of the two for 15 days.
