KOLLAM: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Ramesh Chennithala has said that if Education Minister M.A. Baby goes ahead with the proposed reforms that ‘destroy’ the education sector, the United Democratic Front (UDF) will take a decision to launch a people’s agitation to save the sector at a meeting in Thiruvananthapuram on June 5.
Mr. Chennithala was inaugurating the delegates session of the Kollam district conference of the Congress here on Monday.
He said the reforms mooted by Mr. Baby would only serve to ruin the career of students. He alleged that Mr. Baby’s move had the hidden agenda of increasing the influence of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in the education sector. The UDF wants corrupt and unhealthy practices in the education sector to be rooted out. Instead of consulting the people concerned, major reforms are taken in accordance with the suggestions made by certain pro-Left organisations, he said.District Congress Committee president Kadavoor Sivadasan presided.
