Police Commissioner takes charge

Kozhikode: Anup Kuruvilla John assumed charge as Kozhikode City Commissioner of Police here on Saturday.

He held discussions with the Assistant Commissioners of Police and Circle Inspectors in various wings and Commandant of Armed Reserve Police on the staff strength of the police force in the city.

The Commissioner said he would focus on the ongoing Jana Maitri community policing scheme being implemented at the residential colonies within the police stations limits of Kasaba, Chemmangad and Panniyankara.


Priority will also be accorded to bringing down number of accidents in the city. Speeding and rash driving were contributing to the rise in number of accidents, he said.

The city traffic stations registered 1,760 accident cases in 2007. Two-wheelers and private buses contributed mainly to the rise in number of accidents.

Mr. John belongs to 2004 IPS batch of Kerala cadre. He earlier held the post of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Vadakara in the district. His first posting was as ASP in Ernakulam (Rural). He had a brief stint as ASP at Adoor and Thalassery.

He is a native of Thiruvananthapuram. He passed his Indian School Certificate from Loyola School, Thiruvanthapuram.

He is a product of the reputed National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore.
