Kozhikode: The two-day district conference of the Samastha Kerala Jem-iyyathul Ulama concluded here on Sunday.

Its general secretary Cherussery Sainudheen Musliyar inaugurated the valedictory function of the conference. Panakkad Hyderali Shihab Thangal presided.

The conference on Saturday demanded that the Chief Minister and the Education Minister keep up their promises to Muslim organisations on the marriage registration Act and educational reforms respectively.

The meeting noted that the Chief Minister in his meeting with Muslim organisations had said that while marriages had to be registered with local bodies in the wake of the Supreme Court verdict, marriage certificates issued by Mahallu committees would continue to be legally valid. However, the Government Order in this regard was against the spirit of the decision taken then. The meeting warned the government against forcing Muslims into agitation mode by acting against the decision taken at discussions with Muslim organisations on educational reforms.
