MALAPPURAM: This year’s Nheralath Music Festival will begin at the Devaswom Sreesailam Hall at Angadipuram, near Perinthalmanna, on Friday. Film actor Nedumudi Venu will inaugurate the five-day festival. P. Balachandran, superintendent of Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala Charitable Hospital, will be the chief guest on the occasion.

A classical music performance by Muraleedharan Unni from Thrissur will mark the inaugural. There will be performances on all days till Tuesday from 7.30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Musicians such as Mannur M.P. Rajakumaranunni, Kumara Kerala Varma, Sadanam Harikumar, Vellinezhi Subramanian, Vechur C. Sankar, Palanad Divakaran, Chettur Radhakrishnan, Manjaloor Surendran, Melattur Sahadevan, Nheralath Gopalakrishnan, and Angadipuram Sreedevi will perform at the music festival organised by the Thirumandhamkunnu Bhagavati Devaswom. The festival will be held in memory of Nheralath Rama Poduval, the legendary exponent of ‘sopana sangeetham,’ a temple music accompanied by the edakka.
