of budget proposals

Inauguration of industry incubation centre soon

KOCHI: The Cochin University of Science and Technology has decided to speed up the implementation of various proposals included in the budget 2009-10 in a time-bound manner.

A special Syndicate meet held on the campus reviewed the progress of the implementation of the proposals and expressed satisfaction about the ongoing projects initiated by various departments.

The meeting observed that the interdisciplinary research centres including the Nanomaterials and Devices and Intellectual Property Rights have started functioning on the campus.

Both the centres had received an assistance of Rs. 3.5 crore each from the government.

The Industries Department had assured support worth Rs. 10 lakh for starting an industry incubation centre on the campus. The inauguration of the centre will be held soon.

The Centre for Modelling and Regional Climate Change has sought the help of the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development to step up research on global warming and sea level rise.

Hike in fellowship

The university had implemented the hike in the fellowship for M.Phil programmes envisaged in the budget.

Work on the digital repository for documenting the university orders and the data base on faculty members who had retired from service is progressing.

The software for financial accounting is ready for use.

The university has come out with an examination manual explaining the various aspects related to the conduct and evaluation of examinations.

Degree certificates for all undergraduate and postgraduate examinations will be given on the day of declaration of results from next year onwards.

The varsity has also begun training programme for teachers in association with the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research.

A pension fund has been constituted for teachers in the self-financing institutions under the varsity.

Preparation of manuals

Work on setting up accounting and procedural manuals is progressing. The meeting pointed out that information technology networking on the campus will be completed in a phased manner.

Work on the document delivery system at the university library is almost over.

Steps have also been taken to conduct university and staff day on the campus.

The inauguration of the renovated road leading to the university will be held before March 30. Work on the ‘ship-in-campus’ at the Marine Engineering campus of the university has reached the final phase.

The special Syndicate also decided to complete the construction of the third floor of the university administrative building by 2010.

Work on the seminar complex, pending for the last 16 years, has begun on the campus.

The estimated project cost for the complex is Rs. 4.5 crore.
