To sponsor their academic expenses

ALAPPUZHA: Two orphaned girls, Amrutha C.B. and Princy Peter, of the Sharada Devi Balika Sadhan here, were given a fresh lease of life by the State Bank of India (SBI)’s Mullackal branch here.

The bank, as part of its community service banking activities, has adopted both the girls and will sponsor all their academic expenses for the next 10 years. Both Amrutha and Princy are Class One students of the Government School, Punthoppu.

SBI Mullackal branch manager R.V. Suresh said the bank would sponsor the educational expenses of the duo till Class 10 apart from monitoring their academic progress and motivating them. While Amrutha had reached the Balika Sadhan from Wayanad three years back, Princy was brought here three years back from Mannarkadu in Palakkad, Mr. Suresh said.

The bank’s gesture came on New Year day when the renovated premises of the bank was inaugurated by State Bank of India (SBI) general manager Niranjan Parsha. Deputy general manager D. Madhu inaugurated the bank’s third ATM in Alappuzha, situated alongside the renovated premises. Regional manager K. Ajithkumar spoke.
