Kochi: The 54 Infantry Division a.k.a. Bison Division of the Army, will undertake a first of its kind expedition from the mainland to Lakshadweep.

Christened the Bison Blue Waters Expedition, the six-week adventure voyage will be flagged off by Major General Rajesh Singh, General Officer Commanding, Bison Division, at Agatti on Sunday.

Apart from relishing the adventure, the men in olive green will also address a major environmental concern—the endangered coral reefs in the area. Representatives from the World Wildlife Fund India and National Geographic will also be part of the expedition contributing their bit to environmental awareness.

The expedition is conducted in two legs. The first, the ‘Island Hopping Leg’ at the Lakshadweep Islands will have activities such as para-motoring, scuba diving and talks by ecologists on saving coral reefs. This will be followed by the ‘Ocean Sailing Leg’ onboard yacht ‘Trishna’. ‘Trishna’ will sail from Mumbai to Lakshadweep Islands and back via Goa and Kochi over a period of three weeks during which the crew will also interact with the inhabitants of the islands.
