Thrissur: Arattupuzha Pooram, one of the important festivals of central Kerala, will be held at the Arattupuzha Ayyappa Temple, 14 km from here, on March 20.

Pooram celebrations will begin on March 13 with ‘Chamaya Dravya Samarpanam.’ The festival flag will be hoisted on March 14. The other ceremonies include ‘Thiruvathira Vilakku’ (March 16), Peruvanam Pooram (March 17), Tharakkal Pooram (March 19) and Grama Bali (March 21). Devotees believe that 101 deities call on Lord Ayyappa, deity of the Arattupuzha temple, on Arattupuzha Pooram day. The celebrations include processions carrying ‘thidambu’ (idols) of 23 deities.

A percussion ensemble, led by Peruvanam Kuttan Marar, will be held.

Cochin Devaswom Board president T.G. Ravi will present the Arattupuzha Sree Sastha Puraskaram to kurumkuzhal player Kodakara Sivaraman Nair at a function in the temple on March 14.
