Vice President M. Hamid Ansari will inaugurate the Centre for Budget Studies under the Cochin University of Science and Technology, named after Finance Minister K.M. Mani, on February 17.

An official release said here on Saturday that the function would be held at the old Assembly Hall here where Mr. Mani had presented eight of his 10 budgets. Governor H.R. Bhardwaj would preside. Mr. Mani would be honoured at the function. Member of the Economic Advisory Council of the Prime Minister M. Govinda Rao would deliver the keynote address.

The release said that the objective of the centre, the first in the State, was studies on the budget of Union and State governments and local self governments.

Studies on financial position of Centre and the States, establishment or archives of budget documents, research on budgets and launching of observatory website on State budget are among the other objectives of the centre. M. A. Oommen is the director of the centre.
