THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Lakshadweep administration will get a second helicopter service from the Centre. The Union Cabinet gave the approval for this on Thursday.

The helicopter service, to be provided by Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd., will be utilised for maintaining law and order and meeting other exigencies. An official press note said here that the service, to be started immediately, would be operated from Kavaratti. The additional service would be of considerable help in airlifting serious patients to the mainland and for providing connectivity for inter-island service during the monsoon season when no other means of transport is available
