Hundreds of devotees witness the flag-hoisting ceremony

PATHANAMTHITTA: The annual church festival at the St.Paul’s and St.Peter’s Church at Parumala began with the Kodiyettu ceremony on the church premises on Sunday afternoon. Hundreds of devotees from different parts the State thronged this pilgrim centre on the banks of the Pampa on Sunday to witness the Kodiyettu ceremony.

Senior Metropolitan of Malankara Orthodox Church Geevarghese Mar Osthatheos, assisted by Youhanon Mar Chrysostomos, Metropolitan of Niranom diocese, hoisted the ceremonial flag in an atmosphere charged with devotion, marking the beginning of the annual church festival. Devotees showered betel leaves on the holy mast, a mark of respect and devotion while the flag hoisting is in progress.

Church secretary George Joseph and Parumala Seminary manager M.D. John attended the ceremony. Bishop-designate Mathew Baby celebrated the holy Eucharist held at the church in the morning and Mar Chrysostomos led the Tri-mass.

Mar Chrysostomos inaugurated the youth meet held at the church auditorium in the evening. Dr. Geevarghese Mar Osthatheos presided over the meet and Alexander Jacob, Kerala Police Academy principal, delivered the keynote address. Mar Osthatheos will inaugurate the annual pilgrim week at Parumala in connection with the 106th feast of St. Gregorios at 9.30 a.m. on Monday.

Thomas Mar Athanaseus Metropolitan will lead the holy Tri-mass at 7.30 a.m.

Geevarghese Mar Ivanios Metropolitan will lead the Tri-mass at the Parumala Church on Tuesday morning. The Catholicos-designate, Paulose Mar Milithios, will lead a Tri-mass at 7.30 a.m. on Wednesday.

The bishop-designate, Christaphorus Ramban will lead a holy Eucharist at 9 am on Wednesday.
