KOCHI: A minimum of six cents should be allotted to all families evicted for the proposed Vallarpadom International Container Transhipment Terminal and land should be immediately registered in the names of those displaced from Moolamppilly Island, said Fr. Stephen Alathara, spokesperson for the Archdiocese of Verapoly.

He was speaking after inaugurating a function at Menaka Junction on Friday to mark the fourth month of evicting families from Moolampilly.

It is a challenge towards the public that land has not been registered even after four months. Unless the government rehabilitates the evictees before taking up the project, it will have to face protests, he said. Convener of the coordination committee for those displaced by development projects Francis Kalathunkal presided and C.R. Neelakantan, C.V. Venugopal, Mohammed Shiyas, T.K. Sudhir Kumar, Kuruvila Mathews, Eloor Gopinath, K. Rejikumar, M.H. Rahim, M.S. Omanakuttan, Hashim Chendamppilly, Justin Thomas, Mary Francis, V.K. Abdul Khader, T.R.S. Namboodiripad, N.K. Suresh, V.P. Wilson, C.K. Sivadasan and Selastin, addressed the gathering.
