Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi has termed the statements made by CPI (M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan on the Kannur violence as baseless and irresponsible.

Talking to reporters on his arrival at the airport on Sunday evening, he refuted the allegations that he along with Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullappally Ramachandran had masterminded the violence, and added that he had been on a foreign trip for the last few days.

Reasserting the statements made by Mullappally Ramachandran, the Union Minister said that it was the policy of the CPI(M) to capture power through violent means and the Central forces were kept away from Kannur to facilitate this.
