Thrissur: Kerala Sahitya Akademi president M. Mukundan on Tuesday presented the Akademi’s life-time achievement award for 2008 to V. Aravindakshan at his residence.

The Akademi handed over a purse of Rs. 20,000, plaque and a citation. Mr. Mukundan said the Akademi was pleased to honour Prof. Aravindakshan for his serious pursuit of literature.

Prof. Aravindakshan said that in his career, he had attempted to harmonise elements of Indian and western literature.

Literary base

“Sanskrit lessons and schooling in the Venmani tradition gave a strong base to my literary skills. I also had deep interest in western literature. In my literary pursuits, I have tried to blend a spirit of modern thinking I imbibed from western literature with aspects of Indian aesthetics,” he said.

Akademi vice-president P. Valsala; secretary Purushan Kadalundi and writers Ravunni, Ashokan Cheruvil and K. K. Hiranyan were present at the function.


A former director of the State Institute of Encyclopaedic Publications and a member of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi, Prof. Aravindakshan has written the books, ‘Lakshyavum Margavum’, ‘Pazhamayum Puthumayum’, ‘Marxum Mooladhanavum’, ‘Thozhilali Varga Sahityavum Samskaravum’, and Sahityam Samskaram Samooham’.
