Demand end to strike by Manappuram staff

Members of the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) laid siege to the Collectorate on Friday, seeking the administration’s intervention to end the agitation by employees of the Manappuram finance company. The employees are protesting against the ‘repressive policies adopted by the company’ against them in Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod.

The functioning of the Collectorate was affected till 1 p.m. since the agitators prevented employees from entering the premises. The agitators demanded that the government intervene to end the “fast unto death” spearheaded by C.S. Vinod, State general secretary of the AITUC-affiliated New Generation Bank and Insurance Employees Union in Kanhangad, which entered the 12th day on Friday.
