Killed by a wild elephant last month

Kozhikode: Minister for Forest Benoy Viswom on Thursday handed over a compensation of Rs. 2.5 lakh to the family reserve forest watcher K.K. Balakrishnan, who was killed by a wild elephant last month at Eruvallur near Chellanur.

The government had announced Rs. 2 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and the Department of Forest and Wildlife also announced to give a financial assistance of Rs. 50,000 to the victim’s family. Mr. Viswom visited Mr. Balakrishnan’s house and gave the two cheques to his wife, P.K. Yamuna.

Balakrishnan, 47, was killed by a tusker near a school at the Walayar Check Post on September 20. He joined the Department of Forest and Wildlife as watcher in December 2003. Initially he was posted at the Aruvakkode Timber Depot and later shifted to Walayar.
