KOCHI: A high-level meeting chaired by Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Food K.V. Thomas in New Delhi has decided to conduct an agro-fair and exhibition at the E.U.-assisted market at Maradu during the forthcoming Onam season.

The fair will be organised jointly by the Union and State governments in association with the National Horticulture Board and the National Horticulture Mission. The objective was to develop the proposed fair-cum-exhibition as a permanent venue of the biggest such fair in the country on a par with the international exhibition being held at Pragati Maidan in Delhi. Mr. Thomas also said that formation of a special authority in this regard was also under consideration.

The proposed fair will feature agro products and machinery, fruits, vegetables, and flowers from across the country. District Collector M. Beena said that more meetings to discuss the organisation of the fair would be held at the State level.

Besides the Collector, Agriculture Minister Mullakkara Ratnakaran; Union Agriculture Joint Secretary C.V. Anandabose; Principal Secretary P.K. Mohanti; National Horticulture Board Additional Managing Director N.C. Mistry and Agriculture Director T. Bala Sushahari attended the meeting.
