Modernisation vital, says Legislative panel

An agency of international standards will conduct a study on the problems facing the cashew sector and suggest solutions, Chairman of the Legislative Committee on Public Undertakings K.N.A. Khader has said.

Mr. Khader was talking to mediapersons after a visit by the committee to the headquarters of the public sector Kerala State Cashew Development Corporation (KSCDC) here on Wednesday.

While finding long-term solutions to the problems, the committee would inform the government of the need for urgent financial assistance to the KSCDC for day-to-day activities. The interests of workers should be protected while implementing modernisation programmes at KSCDC, he said. The government would be asked to take steps to take over the 20 factories of the KSCDC that had now been taken on lease.
