Two lovers, who were produced before the Kerala High Court on Friday, disappeared from the court premises immediately after the court ordered that the girl be accommodated in a women’s hostel.

The Bench headed by Justice Pius C. Kurakose issued the order when a habeas corpus petition filed by A.V.Anil Kumar of Thiruvanathapuram, alleging that his daughter had been illegally detained by K.P. Balachandran, Superintendent of Police, Women Cell, Vazhuthakad, and his son, came up for hearing.

The girl, who later accompanied her parents to the High Court canteen to have lunch, managed to slip away with her lover.

Mr. Anil Kumar alleged that Mr. Balachandran and his son abducted his daughter on January 23 and was illegally detaining her at Thiruvananthapuram.

They were taking steps to forcibly marry her off to the SP’s son, he said. When the petitioner tried to contact his daughter over phone, he was threatened with dire consequences. The Central police have launched a probe to track the missing lovers.
