Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Thursday dismissed a petition filed by K.G. Premshankar, Additional Director-General of Police, seeking to quash the proceedings initiated against him by the Ernakulum Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in connection with the manhandling of Maniyeri Madhavan, editor, Sudhinam, a newspaper published from Kannur.
The revision petition was dismissed by Justice K. Ramkumar. The Chief Judicial Magistrate had earlier dismissed his petitions seeking to drop the proceedings against him on the ground that the prosecution had not obtained valid sanction for prosecuting him.
The incident took place in 1988.The case was that he had allegedly manhandled Mr. Madhavan for publishing the name of a girl who was a victim of rape. The CBI took over the investigation following the intervention of the Supreme Court.
The High Court observed that the fact unravelled by various stages of the cases revealed the disturbing manner in which the investigation ordered by the Supreme Court had been attempted to be sabotaged by the petitioner.
The petitioner had abused the process of various courses. The court also directed the petitioner to appear before the magistrate court on October 24.
Poabs Plantation Private Limited has filed a writ petition challenging the order of the government rejecting its application for renewal of lease of Thuthampara Estate and handing over of the estate to the Plantation Corporation. The petition sought a direction to the government to reconsider the application and restore the land to the company.
Justice K.M. Joseph on Thursday orally directed the state government to produce the minutes of the general body meeting of the Pariyaram Medical Society which elected the members to the director board of the society.
The oral direction was given by the court when writ petitions challenging the elections to the society came up for hearing.
