Information and Public Relations Minister K.C. Joseph has said that the State government will soon take action against A. Firoz, Director, Information and Public Relations Department.
The allegation in certain Left media that the United Democratic Front government had appointed Mr. Firoz without examining his criminal record was baseless, Mr. Joseph said at a press conference here on Tuesday.
He said the complaint against Mr. Firoz in a real estate deal was filed on February 26, 2009. The FIR was filed on December 26, 2009.
On November 25, 2010, the Thiruvananthapuram City Police Commissioner wrote to the General Administration Department Secretary informing him of the case filed before an Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate naming Mr. Firoz as third accused.
The intimation came at a time when V.S. Achuthanandan was holding additional charge of the General Administration Department, the Minister said.
‘Appointed by LDF’
The Achuthanandan government appointed him as Additional Director on June 26, 2010.
The government went to the extent of creating the post of Additional Director to accommodate Mr. Firoz.
But the file on his criminal record remained untraceable and did not come before the UDF government when it considered his appointment.
“It had been traced after the news reports hit the headlines,” Mr. Joseph said.
He added that the Information and Public Relations Secretary had been asked to examine the issue and suggest the way forward in taking action against Mr. Firoz.
He would also examine the circumstances under which the relevant file remained untraceable, the Minister said.
