District Superintendent of Police M. Sheik Anvaruddin Sahib on Wednesday said that action would be taken against those moneylenders who had reportedly taken on long lease the land owned by tribespeople of Chenninaikankudy in Idukki.

Case would be charged on specific complaints as rules prohibit purchase of land owned by tribespeople or harvesting of their crops by others, he said.

Most of the tribal families in Chenninaikankudy have leased their land to moneylenders for small sums. The Hindu had, on December 2, highlighted the plight of the poor tribal families. — A Correspondent
