The mystery behind the identity of the man who died in an accident near Kadalundi on Wednesday has been unravelled with the police identifying him as Basheer of Munniyur, near Areekode, in Malappuram district.
The police said Basheer was a wanted criminal against whom a number of complaints had been registered at the Tirurangadi, Kottakkal, and Kondotty police stations. The wallets, SIM cards, and memory cards recovered from his body are believed to be the booty from his various thefts. He was identified from a call received on one of the SIM cards.
Forensic experts are examining the accident site.
