Abandoned bag creates scare

KOCHI: An unidentified electronic object created moments of panic in the city on Monday evening.

The object was found in an abandoned bag near the water meter of Sankoorikkal Buildings, Kaloor by around 4 p.m.

The Ernakulam Town North Police was alerted by 7 p.m., who on inspection found the electronic gadget inside the bag. Bomb squad personnel Jose M.V. and Anoop Raveendran of the City Police and the sniffer dog Sandy were pressed into service immediately.

The bomb squad confirmed the object was not explosive. It was later identified as an ultrasonic flaw detector, used for checking quality of newly-constructed buildings.

A bio-data of one Sajeeb Y. from Karunagapally, Kollam was also recovered from the bag.

The police sources said that the bag must have been stolen and later abandoned inside the building.

No case has been registered in this connection.
