A fine arts society ‘Aalap' has been formed by a group of artistes here for promotion of art and culture.

Aalap will organise bi-monthly music and dance programmes from April last week.

Thalassery that was renowned for its cultural evenings rarely boasts such events now, and venues for organising such programmes have also disappeared, Mahesh Mangalat, secretary of the society, said at a press conference here on Saturday.

The society will provide a platform for music and dance programmes belonging to various genres. Celebrated artistes will give performances.

The first in the series of programmes will be held on April 29, he said.

The society will also organise training sessions in music.

M.K. Santhosh, president of the society, and Jithesh Sundaram, ghazal singer who is also the society vice-president, were present.
