Bureaucracy is capable of taking the lead in welfare activities. District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish demonstrated this at a function in Kochi on Tuesday. After the inauguration of a workshop organised by the baking industry, Mr. Hanish was requested to receive a donation of Rs.11,000 from a member of the association. The money was meant for providing dinner to poor people at General Hospital. The Collector said it would be appropriate if the donation was in multiples of Rs.3,000. The donor responded by offering Rs.15,000. Two others donated Rs.12,000 and Rs.15,000.
