The accident in which a fire destroyed a tourist bus after it had run over a motorcyclist near Kadalundi on Wednesday has taken a twist with the police suspecting that the identity of the bike rider was fake.

The police had initially identified the motorcyclist as Shaji of Tirurangadi on the basis of an identity card obtained from the body.

However, it soon became clear that Shaji was alive, and he did not possess a motorbike or a driving licence.

Motor Vehicles Department records showed that the registration number of the charred vehicle was actually that of another bike of a different company belonging to a person in Perinthalmanna.

Meanwhile, the police have recovered three wallets, 18 SIM cards, and seven memory cards from the body.

On Wednesday, the motorbike had collided with a tourist bus carrying a wedding party. When it slid under the bus, it sparked off a fire.

All the 48 passengers on the bus were rescued by the local people.
