The Thampanoor police station, located in one of the most congested areas in the city, is facing eviction. The Southern Railways, which owns the building, has asked the police to vacate the premises.

More than a year after the Government started looking out for a more suitable building to house the police station, the search remains inconclusive. Though the City Corporation and various organisations had submitted several suggestions, none has been finalised. Residents fear that unless a decision is taken soon, the station would be relocated to another ward. On Monday, the City Corporation Council adopted a resolution urging the Government to retain the station in the Thampanoor ward. Moving the resolution, councillor S. Mini said any move to shift the facility would have serious repercussions on the law and order situation in the core ward.
