: Vehicle users in the town had a novel experience on Thursday.

The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) presented gifts to motorists who complied with rules. Rule-breakers were given advice on the importance of observing road safety rules.

The ‘roadshow’, organised by the MVD, was meant to sensitise motorists to road rules. Uniformed personnel of the department flagged down vehicles, including two-wheelers, cars, and autorickshaws, as part of vehicle-checking. Those who complied with the rules were presented with gifts, including a packet of sweets, by a person dressed up as Maveli.

Gifts were given to nearly 100 vehicle users, according to MVD officials.

This being a festive season, the MVD officials abstained from imposing any fine on those who did not observe rules. The ‘Maveli’ also assisted the MVD personnel in advising the rule-breakers among the vehicle users. The roadshow was inaugurated by Regional Transport Officer Prasad Abraham. Deputy Superintendent of Police P. Sukumaran was the chief guest at the functon. Joint RTO Dinesh Puthalath was also present.
