The Kozhikode Corporation's Model Solid Waste Management (MSWM) project launched a year ago not only received bouquets but also brickbats. A few residents did not even mind taking the issue of declaring the Kozhikode litter-free city to court last year.

But now, the former Mayor Thottathtil Raveedran who took the pains to implement the project must be having the last laugh. The MSWM is getting queries from and outside the State. On Tuesday, a 10-member delegation from the Kollam Municipal Corporation visited the city to study the project .Last year, a team from Chennai Corporation also visited the city to learn about the project. Two City Mayors of Sri Lanka, including the Mayor of Colombo, had also evinced interest in the project after Mr. Raveendran gave a lecture on the topic at the World Environment Conference in London last year.
