Thrissur: The Kerala Agricultural University’s annual budget for 2009-10 envisages a revenue of Rs.235.89 crore and an expenditure of Rs.292.95 crore leaving a deficit of Rs.57.06 crore. The budget was presented by Vice-chancellor K.R. Viswambharan during the annual meeting of the General Council held at Vellanikkara on Saturday. New schemes were not announced as the model code of conduct was in force.

The budget envisages Rs.87.58 crore as non-plan and Rs.32.75 crore as plan grant from the State government. The university would get financial assistance of Rs.29.99 crore from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. The KAU would implement a seed production programme with the participation of farmers, said Mr. Viswambharan. He said the government had approved a Rs.5 crore scheme under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana to increase the area of paddy cultivation.
