‘Paristhithi Padanathinu Oru Aamukham,’ (A preface to environment studies), written by noted environmentalist A. Achyuthan and published by Kerala Sasthra Sahithya Parishad (KSSP) in connection with the golden jubilee celebrations of the science and literary movement was released during a public function here on Monday.

Former Forest Minister and CPI leader Benoy Viswom released the book by handing over a copy to the Chavara Cultural Centre Director Fr. Jose Edappadiyil at the Chavara Cultural Centre Hall here.

With almost all the universities in the country making environmental studies a mandatory subject for students, the book, which gives valuable insights into the myriad challenges faced by the environment in the changing times, is expected to be discussed seriously in the academic and non-academic circles alike.

According to Prof. Achyuthan, the book, which is his 16{+t}{+h}title, was written and designed in a way as to make it palatable and useful for academic as well as non-academic reader alike.

The book discusses environmental issues ranging from different sort of pollutions to environmental morality and from the historic context and relevance of Silent Valley agitation to the widespread arsenic poisoning in Bangladesh.

Parishad district president P.K. Balakrishnan welcomed the gathering and former president Prof. K. Sreedharan presided over the book release function. Prof. I.G. Bhaskara Panikkar and Deshabhimani weekly editor K.P. Mohanan were present.
