Protest planned against decision not to allow buses from Goshree islands to city

KOCHI: Residents of the Goshree islands have decided to celebrate the second anniversary of the opening of the Goshree bridges, but also protest against the decision not to allow buses from the islands to the city.

Sebastian Paul, MP, will cut a cake to inaugurate the celebrations at High Court junction on Monday. The protest will be marked by drinking of bitter-gourd juice.

T.R. Sankar Das, vice-chairman of Visala Kochi Island Development Samithi, will preside over the function. M.K. Purushothaman, MLA, will be the chief guest.

V.T. Cheekutty, who had led a struggle for having bridges between Vypeen and Ernakulam; the former MLA V.K. Babu; the Centre of Indian Trade Unions leader V.H.M. Rafeeq; the councillor Sabu George; National Congress Party district secretary I.J. George; former president of Vypeen Block Panchayat C.M. Devassy; and Bharatiya Janata Party Njarakkal mandalam general secretary K.S. Shaiju will speak.
