KANNUR: A large cache of powerful country-made bombs were seized during a police raid in the tension-hit Panur area on Tuesday. The steel bombs were found in two cardboard boxes.

The police said 42 country-made steel bombs (explosives packed in steel containers) were unearthed from under a bridge across a canal at Kutteri in the Panur police station limits. The area witnessed tension following recent clashes between CPI(M) and Sangh Parivar workers.

In a related incident, bomb-making materials were seized from the compound of an uninhabited house at Poyilur under the Kolavallur police station limits on Monday evening.
