At least 30 passengers were injured in a head-on collision between two private buses near Cherkala, 10 km from here, on Wednesday.

The accident occurred around 5.30 p.m. when a bus heading for Kasaragod from Mullaria collided head-on with another bus going to Mallam from here. A tragedy was averted as one of the buses came to rest against the sides of a bridge, thus checking its fall into a 200-ft-deep stream.

The injured were admitted to various hospitals.

Their condition was said to be stable, sources said.
