Starts serving free food at Sabarimala and Pampa

The Akhila Bharatha Ayyappa Seva Sanghom (ABASS) has opened 30 camps offering food, drinking water and shelter to Sabarimala pilgrims.

Talking to The Hindu , N. Velayudhan Nair, ABASS general secretary; and D. Vijayakumar, vice-president, said the Sanghom had opened camps at the Sannidhanam, Pampa, Nilackal and Erumely on Friday. They said a camp would be opened at Valiyanavattom on the Erumely-Pampa forest path on Saturday.

The ABASS camps at the Sannidhanam, Pampa, Nilackal, Erumely, and Pandalam have started functioning in full swing. The Sanghom has also opened camps at Guruvayur, Thrissur, Palakkad, and at the railway stations at Ernakulam, Chengannur, and Kottayam. The ABASS started round-the-clock Annadanam at its camps at Sabarimala and Pampa on Friday.

Stretcher service

Mr. Nair said the round-the-clock emergency stretcher service headed by Thanchavur Damodaran was the backbone of the Sanghom service-wing at Sabarimala. He said as many as 300 volunteers were deployed at the Sannidhanam for the first phase of duty during the Mandalam festival and 200 more volunteers would join them in the next two weeks.
