Instances of excessive billing and unhygienic conditions came to light in raids conducted on Friday at 26 hotels in the Medical College and Ulloor areas by the monitoring cell of the District Collector.

It was found that these hotels were charging Rs.28 to Rs.45 for vegetarian meals and Rs.7 to Rs.10 for tea. For masala dosa these hotels were charging Rs.28 to Rs.35, a press note issued here by Taluk Supply Officer B. Vijayakumar said.

These hotels had also not displayed the price list for the menu. While the Civil Supplies Department slapped cases on 11 hotels, the Legal Metrology wing initiated action against four hotels.
