Completing the first phase of the Zero Landless project in the district, 2,115 people drawn from the three taluks will receive land titles.

Of this 1,550 people are from BPL landless families and 550 are those living in four-cent colonies and puromboke land here. They will be given three cents each.

The land titles are scheduled to be distributed by Revenue Minister Adoor Prakash on December 16.

As per official records, a total 7,184 applications were received in the first phase of the project. The government had found 1,036 suitable plots after surveying 15 villages across Kozhikode taluk. Surveys in Vadakara and Koyilandy taluks of the district yielded 98 and 459 plots, respectively. In Kozhikode Corporation limits, 131 plots were identified in Beypore and Nellikode. However, in Beypore, the fate of 112 plots surveyed is uncertain. There were 4,311 applications from within the corporation precincts alone. Availability of land in rural Kozhikode was also minimum, thanks to the rapid urbanization of the panchayats. Of the total 2,893 applications received, the government could accommodate only 592 requests for land under the project. The project lost 283 plots at Ulliyeri in Koyilandy taluk to a local school. Project officials said the process of finding land for the second phase of the project would commence soon. They said flats could be constructed to accommodate more people. Besides there are about 20,000 plots in Kasaragod for people willing to go there from other districts.
