Kallachi-Puthukkayam road opened

Kozhikode: Minister for Forests Benoy Viswom on Monday said the Department of Forests and Wildlife would plant 20 lakh saplings of trees in the State in connection with the World Environment Day on June 5.

The saplings are being readied at various nurseries in the State. Former President of India A.P.J. Abdul Kalam will inaugurate the afforestation programme, he said.

The Minister was inaugurating the renovated Kallachi-Valayam-Chuzhali- Puthukkayam road in the district.

The total cost of the project is Rs.2.31 crore.

Construction activities included renovating the 4.7 km stretch, widening the road by another five-metres, tarring and building culverts and drains.

Nadapuram gramapanchayat president Sooppy Narikkatteri presided over the function. Chekkiyad gramapanchayat president V. Andulla, Valayam gramapanchayat president P.C. Lakshmi and district panchayat member T. Moosa spoke.
