The police have registered the arrest of two more persons of a gang allegedly involved in a series of chain snatching cases in the State.

The two — Ankur and Sakkir of Seelampur in Delhi — are currently in judicial custody in connection with other cases.

Police custody

The police have begun procedures to get their custody for further investigation.

The leader of the gang, Haji Nazaruddhin Soni, was arrested from Kozhikode last week.

From the information collected from him, the police went to Delhi to nab his colleagues, Ankur, Sakkir and Mansoor.

Women targeted

The gang, involved in many cases in Kozhikode, Kochi, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram, targeted mostly women.

Soni, who ran a jewellery outlet in Delhi, came to Kerala to try his luck in textiles after his business there failed. He later found chain snatching a more lucrative option. According to the police, the gang came by flight from Delhi and flew back after their operations. They stayed in expensive hotels.

The police recovered gold jewellery stolen from the district from a jewellery outlet in Seelampur.

West circle inspector Ramachandran and East sub inspector Benny Jacob led the investigation.
